PIS was created to integrate private sector workers into the development of the company and provide social benefits. PIS payments are administered by Federal Savings Bank and works as an annual salary bonus for low-income workers.
For public servants, there is a similar program called PASEP (Public Servant Asset Formation Program), which is administered by Banco do Brasil.
